Internal Analysis

The company Pixar focuses on human capital that focuses on talented workforce that drives the company's success. Pixar's culture of collaboration and open communication is often cited as a key factor in attracting and retaining top talents. (Forbes, 2018).

External Analysis

Based on the case study, Pixar aims to appeal people of all ages whenever the studio creates their films. One of their big hit movies such as Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Monster's Inc., revolves around the story of family, friendship, joy, and life. Their focus in their films is the company's focus in business as well (McGraw Hill, 2019). Pixar has a variety of opportunities as a company such that there was a growing demand for animation especially at the time Pixar was launched. To date, the animation market is expected to reach $270 billion by 2025 (Market Research Future, 2020). However, Pixar also faces a variety of competitors such as DreamWorks, and Blue Sky who are also investing heavily in technology and talent to produce high-quality animated films (IBISWorld, 2021).

Pixar is an animation studio that is widely known for their success most especially in their feature films such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. The company's entrepreneurial management is characterized by several fundamental ideas that helped the company succeed:

Entrepreneurial Management

Collaboration: The studio encourages an atmosphere of open communication and respect between their creators as they collaborate to generate ideas and find solution, this was one of Pixar's essential components under entrepreneurial management.

Innovation: Pixar's focus and dedication is by enhancing its storytelling with the use of technology. According to McGraw Hill (2019), Jobs understood how the film works, and how it can be successful. With this, Pixar made sure to always innovate and become accomplished storytellers that can move the hearts and minds of families.

Risk-taker: Pixar is not risk averse to taking chances. The company created several ground-breaking films that were considered risky but proved to be a success.

Process Innovation

According to Dess (2019), process innovation means that the business improves materials utilization and increases quality of product. According to the case study of Pixar, Lasseter utilized the process innovation strategy at the time that the writers are creating and developing their stories. The process to write a script would go up to 2 years just to work out all the details, and then they move to storyboards.

The focus of Pixar is storytelling as they truly believe that "no amount of great animation is going to save a bad story. The company also believes that after a good story, that is when Lasseter will seek after Pixar's technologies, whereas the team would develop software that randomly applies physical and emotional characteristics specially used for A Bug's Life. Pixar's technological advancements at that time were years ahead in comparison to competitors.

Conclusion

Overall, Pixar's co-founder Ed Catmull, has shared his greatest intent in his latest book called "Creativity, Inc" that Pixar values and knows the importance of human capital in the success of the business. Catmull emphasizes on the importance of investing in employee development and providing opportunities for growth and learning (Catmull, 2014). Not only that, but the company also aims for success through innovation in storytelling and continuous development through technology. All things considered, Jobs and Catmull, did a great job building Pixar.
