Do you agree or disagree with the following questions?

1.A The pros and cons in voter identification are highly debated in this Country since President Donald Trump took office and lost in his second term run. The left and right swing whole heartedly on their platforms and each cannot be further apart.

The pros:

Producing and requiring identification at a voting place would keep people who are not citizens or here illegally from voting. As Trump said only American citizens should vote in our elections.

Requiring identification would keep people from voting more than once in an election. If no identification was checked a person could vote for multiple people in an election. One could vote for his or her entire family especially now with gender neutral people it would be easy to vote as a female or male.

Having voter identification could be used for another form of identification.

Being able to vote as a citizen with identification would provide some sort of pride in their Country and helping who runs it by voting.

The Cons:

People on the con side believe it will cost too much for everyone to be issued a voter ID.

Study's have been conducted and it has shown that approximately 11% of voters do not have identification. Would be voters find it hard to obtain a birth certificate especially in low income areas of the Country.

Requiring voter identification would reduce the amount of people who would vote and this would cause the democrats to lose votes they would have gained since most low income voters vote democrat.

In 18 pros and cons of enacting voter -ID-laws states "Since 2000, there have only been 31 credible allegations of voter impersonation.". The fraud of people voting as someone else is negligible.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution states that States cannot pass laws that "unduly burden" a persons right to vote.

In my opinion since 9/11 the government has required "real ID" for anyone wanting a driver's license or identification card. This requires all wanting either to produce a birth certificate and other items to be issued this identification. It does unduly burden this action. Anyone who has been issued this type of identification will have the proper identification to vote. I personally do not see a problem with voter identification to keep the voting institution fair.

An article I found has the pro side and the con side of voter ID -

PRO: Russia thanks you for opposing voter ID

"The overwhelming majority of Americans support voter ID requirements because they instill confidence in our elections. Showing an ID when you help pick the next president is just plain common sense. But at a time when concerns about foreign interference in our elections are high, ID requirements also help protect the integrity of our electoral process. We can't stop Russia's attempts at interference from abroad, but we can protect the security of our ballots here at home. Voter ID laws serve three core functions: they are checks against errors, they prevent wrongdoing and they give citizens confidence in the voting process in general. Thanks to the more than 30 states with some voter ID requirements, Americans trust electoral outcomes even ones they do not like."

CON: Why conservatives can't and won't quit voter ID laws

"Already, Kentucky Republican legislators introduced a new bill requiring voters to present a limited form of ID when they show up to the polls before casting a ballot. If passed, the voter ID law, which is supported by Republican Secretary of State Michael Adams, would be in place for November's general elections. A similar push is being made by Republican legislators in Nebraska, while implementation of North Carolina's new voter ID law was recently blocked by a federal judge for being discriminatory. North Carolina's new law was meant to replace a previous iteration struck down in 2016 for targeting African Americans "with almost surgical precision." Today, more than 30 states have adopted some type of voter ID law. Of those, 10 states have strict requirements pertaining to the forms of identification that qualify or extra steps voters without IDs must take to prove their identity."

In another article I found many reasons why voter ID is a constitutional issue: "Under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, a state is not allowed to pass laws that "unduly burden" the right to vote. According to the Supreme Court, even very minor burdens have to be justified as "sufficiently weighty to justify the limitation."

Obviously if it violates our constitution then it isn't right, but I do agree there needs to be more security when it comes to polls. These things can include more things than just a voter ID. It can include better cyber security, which has nothing to do with the citizens are everything to do with the system. I think there should be voter IDs to verify who should and should not be voting, in the case of illegal aliens... but I'm not so sure that many people who aren't citizens are going to run out and go vote.
