I think if you are starting a new business or simply want to market yourself in any type of business, working with a mentor can help to identify your specific goals of where you want to go in that business $($or for yourself personally$)$ and impact your career to help you grow. I have watched my current boss work with a mentor for the last year, and he has been a motivator to her to help her see herself as a leader in our company, to help her gain confidence and now to allow her to put the work in to successfully grow the business. Of course, I as her employee saw that all along, but she needed to see it for herself.

I think the most important criteria in selecting a mentor is to select someone who has succeeded in their own business from nothing. Someone who took the initial step to grow a business, put in the hard work and become successful in it$.$ My boss, Veronica was a dental hygenist when she met her husband who was a plasterer; and she stepped into the role of President knowing nothing about plastering and has successfully grown the business and continues to do so$.$ For me$,$ personally, I would want a mentor like her because she knew nothing about the business but was eager to learn and continues to learn; just because she is successful doesn't mean she stops learning.
