do you agree or disagree with this discussion and what do you like or dislike In the beginning of the case management decided training needed to be improved if they wanted sales to improve. To improve training and sales within the organization the sales team decided to use a needs assessment that was conducted years prior. The sales team believed if they updated the needs assessment, they could create new training strategies based on the new information. The department also investigated new training technology that would be more cost-efficient and effective but because management was pressuring them to quickly decide on a plan, they bought a basic online training package. Although the training package purchased by the training department was expensive it was not effective, and the sales continued to decline. After the training department reached out to the sales team, they discovered the training was not effective because there was not an instructor to guide them or answer their questions and they were not learning any new sales techniques. The decline in sales also came from the large number of new products being introduced. The training department made most of the decisions because they were the ones responsible for the training and development of employees. The training team was responsible for making sure employees had everything they needed to be productive within the workplace.
I believe the ideal process for handling the concerns about declining sales would have been to update the needs assessment before making any decisions. The training department used an old needs assessment so the information they based their decisions on was not accurate. If the department updated the needs assessment first, they would have been able to see that the main issue was the sales team could not keep up with the number of new products being introduced and a new training package would not be beneficial.
It seemed like management was in a hurry to fix the sales problem, so everyone felt pressured to make quick decisions. I would have told the management that enough money had been lost. I would tell them using an outdated needs assessment and rushing to make decisions will cost the organization more money because the information is not accurate. Basing their training decisions on old information will not improve sales. I would also try my best to convince management to give the training department more time to update the needs assessment and find a training package that will be the most beneficial to the sales team.
If I was asked to develop a training program for the sales agents, I would first create a presentation. According to our textbook presentations are most useful when the learning objective of training is for trainees to gain knowledge, such as an understanding of product features(Greg,2021). The sales team complained about how boring and slow the online training was so I would create a presentation that would be informative and engaging. I would use pictures of the products and videos providing important information about the products to make the information more interesting. My presentation would deliver content directly to the sales team. By providing content to the sales team face-to-face I will be able to make sure I have their undivided attention. During the presentation, I will provide the sales team with important information about all new products and new sales techniques that would be beneficial. In addition, I will give employees the opportunity to ask questions, so they fully understand the material being presented. I would use the modeling method to observe the sales team and see what they learned from the presentation. This method will give the employees the opportunity to practice performance while the trainer observes and gives feedback about what they can do better.
