In my opinion, it would be best that Russ Saffold do what he can to retain his current team.Of course, these thoughts may fall on death ears. That does not mean he shouldn't at least pitch the idea to his bosses with some key points outlining what makes those employees worth keeping with the company. It was mentioned that the group is very tight knit and works very well together for the sake of the refinery they're employed for, not necessarily the group who owns the refinery.Loyalty has saved many jobs and in order to retain the refineries top IT employees, this may be an option he would like to pitch.The external leadership action would be,Advocating and Representing the Team to the Environment.If an organization's superiors are unaware of the team successes, the leader is obligated in cases such as this to let their strongest qualities be from and center.A leader can only look as good as the employees they supervise. The biggest reason he should work for the IT employees he is currently working with is not so much the loyalty aspect on his end, but the fact that these individuals work very closely together, and ware what's best for the company in the end. If there were characteristics of team excellence lacking, it would be that the team has not appeared of yet to pull together to compile a presentation to their corporate office as to why this team should remain at their current location and intact.
