Do you agree that everyone should have a living will, life hits us unexpectedly and only you know what you would want in the event someone has to make end of life medical decisions for you. Living wills are a huge improvement to the law. In the case of Cruzan v. Missouri Department of Health, Cruzan did not have a living will or advanced directive. She was in an automobile accident and had a feeding tube inserted. When she was in her normal state she told family that in the case of something happening she would not want to live in a vegetable state. Her family told the hospital this, but without the living will they would not do it without a court order. Long story short they were approved to pull the cord by the trial court, but the decision was reversed by the supreme court. This shows how important a living will can be because we never know what can happen in life and to be prepared with directions in case something happens is the best way to clear up any confusion of what you would want, rather it is to live or die. The Supreme court's opinion sent a message from this case, that if people do not want their life prolonged by artificial means they should sign a living will.
