The first of specialized programs that provide small businesses with Government assistance are "special government contracts to be awarded to small, disadvantaged business subcontractors" (Byrd, 180). So we are all clear, a disadvantaged business is owned by someone who is "socially or economically disadvantaged", meaning that they are of a race other than caucasion. In order to be found fit for this form of assistance, the business owner must own at least 51 % of their company.
Another special program that is represented by the Small Business Administration is called a Low Documentation, or LowDoc Loan program. These loans can be processed for less than one hundred thousand dollars. The business owner has to work with the bank, yet the paperwork behind the loan is far less strenuous, and based on "credit history, projected cash flow and character, and less on collateral equity" (Byrd, 180).
CAPLine is a "Revolving Line of Credit initiative" who serves to assist small businesses to attain short term working capital through the initiation of a line of credit. Lastly, the "Women's Prequalification Loan Program allows women business owners to receive prequalification from the SBA for a loan guarantee of up to $250, 000" prior to going to a bank (Byrd, 180). This loan program focuses on the character of the applicant, their credit history, and their experience.
