There are many benefits to obtaining and receiving Project Management certifications such as the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or the Project Management Professional (PMP) if project management is of interest to your career or will become a vital point in your career path.
Certifications are excellent career builders as they increase your value offering and knowledge as a professional. However, it is important to focus on building a toolbox of experience mixed in with certifications and advanced education. In the early stages of my career, I had a notion that being certified and having advanced degrees, was the golden ticket to higher pay and landing the leadership positions, and while there is some truth to this notion, real workplace experience has been what I have found to give the best chances and opportunity for the "dream" roles and positions in the world of business and management.
Note: there are careers and specific jobs that certifications and degrees are the only way to work in that role. Examples include Physicians, Lawyers, University Professors, and many times company executives.
