Do you think the proposed solutions to address the disparities that are reported about the risk of being killed by police use of force by age, race-ethnicity, and sex could work? If so, why? If not, why not, and what would you propose as an alternative? - The main goal of this article is to find out what is involved with the number of people killed by officers based on identifying characteristics such as age, race, and gender. The first result of the study found that people of color have a higher likelihood of being killed by police officers than white men and women. It is also most likely that these types of people are going to be killed at a young age rather than at an old age. Specifically Latino men and black men are significantly more likely to be killed by an officer than white men. The results found that approximately 1 in every 1000 young men will be killed by a police officer statistically, leading it to be a significant cause of death. Further results show that black men are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police in their lifetime than white men. While black women are 1.4 times more likely to be killed by police than white women. The results also show that this same effect is apparent for Native American men and women who are also more likely to be killed by police than white men and women. Asian and pacific islander men and women are less likely to be killed by police than white men and women. Women also have a lower risk to be killed by officers twenty times less than men. The highest risk of death for individuals' peaks between the ages of 25 and 35 and starts to decline from that point forward. Police use of force is one of the leading causes of death for young men as results show. The number of uses of force deaths from police officers is also determined by identifying characteristics such as race, age, and gender. Studies found that unequal exposure to the risk factor of police involved deaths has many consequences for the societal factor of citizens lives. Black Americans have always been disproportionately targeted by the criminal justice system as the highest number of deaths. To address the disparities that are associated with discrimination by race in the police force. I would devise a plan that included hiring more diverse officers to patrol the streets. In doing so having a diverse workforce of officers allows little discrimination to take place while on the streets. People who also work together with others who are different from them can expect to find themselves more accepting of others while outside in public. Hiring more diverse officers also improves the public's perception of the police force as more accepting of minority civilians. In regard to ageism in the police force, I suggest that officers learn from a program that teaches them better communicational skills. One of the main reasons I feel that agism exists in the police force that is being targeted to younger adults. Is due to the fact that older police officers feel a disconnect from the younger generation and treat them differently for how they interact with them. Learning about generational differences and staying up to date with how younger Americans prefer to communicate will improve the relationship between older and younger officers as well as citizens. Programs that will be taught will involve modern technology, generational statistics, and an education in current slang terms that older officers might fail to understand previously. To address the issue of discrimination based upon gender in the police force. I first propose a similar solution to how I choose to address the issue of racism. An equal number of female and male offices should be recruited to a police force to reduce the issue of gender discrimination that takes place in policing. Statistics also show that women are vastly unrepresented in every police force as they are frequently seen as a male only position. Female officers are also proven to be better at talking with suspects than male officers as they pose a natural ability to calm and reason with others. Having more women and developing a less aggressive and more community focused policing outlook will only improve the issue of police involved fatalities and killing in the United States
