Does trade promote a race to the bottom with respect to environmental standards? Is it fair for rich countries to require developing countries to abide by environmental rules of the richer countries in order to trade (given that the rich countries didn't have to follow such rules when they were developing) or is it fair to the rich country to have it compete against the developing country which may have lower costs of production due to lower environmental regulations? Should rich countries (and their taxpayers) pay the developing countries not to pollute? The Paris Accords (which the US has pulled out of) and the Kyoto Protocol (which the US did not sign) might be good frameworks for what environmental agreements might look like.
