Dr. Rodgers is interested in people's attitudes toward gun control and how these attitudes are related to people's political affiliations. She posts an invitation to participate in an anonymous internet survey to eight different social media sites?three that tend to contain politically conservative content, three that tend to contain politically liberal content, and two that are neutral, containing both politically conservative and politically liberal content. As part of the survey, she carefully collects demographic data on age, gender, and self-identified political affiliation on a scale from 1 = extremely liberal to 7 = extremely conservative. Participants may also select 0 = no political leanings. After completing the 16-item attitude survey, participants are thanked and prompted to email the survey link to two or three people they know might be interested in taking the survey.
Dr. Rodgers collects all the survey data and calculates the total attitude scores for each participant. Then she calculates the mean attitude scores for each political group to present in a table of findings, first for age bands (see below) and then for genders. Scores on the attitude survey can range from 16 - 80, with higher scores representing more positive attitudes toward gun control laws. Lower scores represent more negative attitudes toward gun control laws. Answer the following questions about the conclusions Dr. Rodgers makes based on her study findings.
