Draw an E-R model for the following data modelling question:
The organization operating a small rural airport has decided to upgrade the information system that they use to store and manage information related to the airport and has hired you to help. Your first task is to come up with a conceptual model that captures the information that is relevant to the airport operator. You sit down with several employees of this organization and find out the following about the airport employees and all the airplanes that are stationed and maintained at the airport.
- The airport is able to accommodates several airplane models. Each model is identified by a model number (e.g., DC-10), and has a capacity and a weight.
- Every airplane that is allowed to land and take off from the airport has a registration number and a model (e.g., DC-10),
- A number of technicians work at the airport. Each technician is a certified expert on one or more plane model(s). Technicians can have overlapping expertise.
- Several traffic controllers also work at the airport. Each traffic controller must have an annual medical examination whose result they must share with the airport operator in order to be cleared to work.
- Every airport employee, including technicians and traffic controllers has a name, SIN, address, phone number, and salary.
- Most employees, but not all, belong to one (or more) of the several unions active at the airport.
- Each union is identified by a name. Descriptions of each union are also available.
- Only one airline operates out of this airport and all of its airplanes are tested regularly by the airports technicians. Each of the test performed on aircraft by the technicians has a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test number, a description, and a maximum possible score.
- The FAA requires the operator of the airport to keep track of the tests its technicians perform on each airplane. For each testing event, the information needed is the date, the test performed, the number of hours the technician spent doing the test, and the score that the airplane received on the test. No technician can conduct more than one test at a time.
- Each plane must be tested at least 5 tests per year.
A) Design a conceptual model that captures the information in the description given above. Express your conceptual model using the E-R modeling framework, i.e., produce a representation of your model as an E-R diagram. Make sure to: indicate the various attributes of each entity and relationship set, specify keys for all entity sets, specify participation constraints for each relationship sets
B) Assume that the FAA passes a regulation that stipulates that an aircraft test must be conducted by a technician who is an expert on the model of the aircraft being tested. How would you express this constraint?
