Due to shortage of rental homes during the past year, there have been challenges in finding the right kind of accommodation that serve the need of students. Students often arrive with little preparation and little knowledge about house rentals in Peterborough. On top of that, many students find it expensive to rent apartments quickly upon their arrival. Language and cultural differences may pose additional challenges for international students in finding suitable accommodations.

To mitigate these issues, Decima Technologies wants to provide students with online temporary homestay network, similar to commercial networks in the market such as Airbnb. The product is a website and a mobile app (runs on both android and iOS) that will allow homeowners to share their apartments or rooms with students. Owners will mention for how many days they would like to share their apartments, and how much they would like to charge per night. There should be option for homeowners who would like to share their apartments for no cost as an act of charity. The owner should be able to share photos of the apartment, and information about themselves, such as whether they speak a foreign language and whether they can provide additional support to help the student guest (e.g. ride to school/university). Students should be able to search for apartments based on location, price (if any), number of rooms, and any additional assistance provided by the host. Students should also be able to rate and write reviews for the apartments after they stay in them. Similarly, homeowners should be able to write reviews about the student tenants. Parents should be allowed to rent apartments on behalf of student guests.

To avoid the service to be used by persons who are not students, the student guest is required to submit proper documentation (e.g. Student ID) when they confirm the booking. The product should generate weekly reports about student stays to the university/school officials. Decima Technologies want the product up and running by February 2022.
