During an experimental determination of drying time, a square fiber board (size =30 cm x 18 cm x 2 cm; dry mass =10 kg; initial moisture content =25%) is placed in hot air stream. The drying rate remains constant at 2 kg/m2.h till a moisture content of 10.7%(dry basis) is reached. A total drying time of 2 hours was achieved to reduce the moisture content to 1.52%. The equilibrium moisture measured separately under the same conditions is 0.5%, dry basis.
It is required to determine the drying time of another board, 1 m x 1 m x 2 m, from 35% initial moisture to 1% final moisture under similar drying conditions.
Calculate the drying time, knowing that drying rate is known to be linear in the falling rate period. All moistures are on wet basis unless stated otherwise.
