During the 1990s, the microenterprise field filled quickly in the United States. Beginning with few non-benefit associations testing agricultural nation models, the field currently has specialist co-ops in each express, a public exchange affiliation (AEO), a developing number of state-level affiliations and financing delegates, and a few exploration and strategy associations. The Aspen Institute and FIELD (Microenterprise Fund for Innovation, Effectiveness, Learning and Dissemination) has gathered information on the associations in the field starting around 1992. The primary index, in 1992, recorded 108 associations that recognized themselves as working in the field. By 2010 this number had developed to more than 800 associations that offer direct types of assistance to business people either microfinancing or business advancement services.[10]
