During Week 16 we will study Intellectual Property. You can work ahead of time to conduct research and write four complete paragraphs on two of the four elements of intellectual property: trademark, copyright, patent or trade secret. Tell me a bit about why you chose the two, and provide your opinion as to if you think this is a great U.S. law we have or why it isn't.

1. Trademark: Find a trademark that you are familiar with; it could be the name of your favorite brand of sports apparel, a logo you like, or symbol that speaks volumes to you. Write about it, and why it was important for a trademark to be filed by its company/owner. What would happen if that trademark would be challenged in court? If it has been challenged in court, what was/is the outcome? Would it be possible to find that your selection would become generic, and if so, who would lose?
2. Copyright: Find a copyright that you want to write about, be it a book, music, photography, movie, tattoo, etc. Do research and explain when and why it was copyrighted, and if there have been challenges to this copyright. Provide me with any circumstance presented in modern times (last 20 years) when someone has claimed the fair use doctrine when using a copyright.
3. Patent: Call out a design patent and tell me when it was created and when it expires.
4. Trade Secret: Find a trade secret that is protected in the world of technology or design and write about when was it protected, what it is, and why you agree or disagree about its filing to be protected under UTSA (Uniform Trade Secrets Act).
