During Week 2 we learned about Administrative Law, and the three branches of the U.S. federal government, including the legislative branch. This first of two assignments is for you to pick one committee from the Senate and one committee from the House of Representatives (documents with committee listings included at the bottom). You are to conduct research and write four complete paragraphs (you can make it longer than four paragraphs): 1. Find a current bill currently underway for each Chamber. Write a paragraph (one for each Chamber) about what the bill entails, where the committee is with respect to the process of considering the bill, and who chairs the committee and the length of time they have in this role. Describe the other members of the committee as well. Provide me with your opinion as to if this bill would create a law and/or tax you would support or not. 2. Find a bill that is supported by both Chambers in the current group of committees and write a paragraph about the bill and if you would support its passage. (This would be another paragraph.) 3. Find a bill that was vetoed by a president (current day presidents from George W. Bush going forward) and what happened to the bill: Did the legislative branch send it back down for approval to nix the president's veto? Did they revise the bill to gain the president's signature and support? Did they just decide not to try passing the bill and drop the idea? (This would be the final and last paragraph.)
