Each area is operated initially at 50 Hz at no load and the tie-line is unloaded when the load in each area is suddenly increased simultaneously. Under this condition, the area control error (ACE) in each area is found to be ACE, ACE =-20 MW. Assume load frequency control (LFC) is not employed and neglect losses and dependence of load on frequency in both areas. Use base power of 100 MVA in your calculations. (i) Calculate the steady-state frequency error (in Hz) and change in tie-line flow (in MW). State the tie-line flow direction clearly. Hence, determine the load increase (in MW) in each area. (ii) Suppose the tie-line is tripped and the two areas are separated. Based on the load increase obtained in part (i), determine the steady-state frequency error (in Hz) in each area.
