1) Number one
There have been a couple of memories in my life that have been considered a flashbulb memory but not too many because I believe it has to be an event that was very special to you something you have been waiting for your whole life. One memory I had that was considered a flashbulb memory was probable my first time going to Nigeria. It was last year November when I went to Nigeria and what made this a "flashbulb memory" was that every since I was a baby my parents and grandparents told me many stories about Nigeria such as the food my family there, Nigeria fashion style and how different it was than America. Another thing that made this a flashbulb memory was how I always use to talk to my family members on the phone my aunties, uncle, cousin etc. and just seeing everyone I used to talk to on the phone and finally getting the chance to meet them in person made it an awesome memory to remember. One thing I believe that makes a flashbulb memory is being with your loved ones and being in an event you were always looking forward to especially as a kid. Another flashbulb memory I had was my first basketball championship. This was a memory and a day to remember because of how I believe if you played sports as a kid everyone used to imagine themselves hitting that one shot or winning that championship and the day finally happened. So like I was saying before to make a flashbulb memory I believe it usually happens when you are with your family and loved ones or if it is an event you were always looking forward to as a kid, It would automatically create that flashbulb memory that you have always wanted.
2) Number two
An example of a flashbulb memory in my own life is when I first learned of my childhood dog's passing. I vividly remember where I was, what I was doing, and even what I was wearing. I remember the moments leading up to it and getting ready for work, and then the moment I received a text message about it and excused myself to the bathroom. The memory is almost like a video in my brain and it is vivid and detailed. In Grison and Gazzaniga (2022, p. 665), flashbulb memories are defined as "Detailed and vivid memories about the circumstances in which we heard about surprising and emotionally arousing events.". Hearing about my childhood dog's passing is a flashbulb memory because it is remembered in detail and was an emotionally significant event. Flashbulb memories are associated with emotionally significant events and they are long-lasting which differs from regular, everyday memories that can be forgotten easily such as short-term memories. Short-term memories are only held for a short amount of time and are only a small amount of information. Semantic memories are just information and knowledge, not a personal experience with detail. We have many different types of memories but flashbulb memories are different from other memories stored because of the high degree of detail and accuracy, as well as their emotional significance and longevity. You are more than likely to remember these types of memories for a lifetime with little change or only a few errors in it. The vividness of these memories make them exceptionally detailed, they are clear like a picture or a video unlike other memories. Their durability allows them to be recalled vividly and long-term which sets them apart from daily recollective memory. Flashbulb memories are linked to highly emotional events which leaves them to always be of profound significance, unlike a memory of the last meal you had. These type of memories are different from others in many interesting ways and are complex and meaningful.
