As a manager, there are a few ways that I could effectively contribute to the management and execution of my organizations strategy. For one, I could ensure leadership and motivation in my organization to provide clear direction, support, and encouragement in order to keep team members committed to strategic goals. Additionally, in order to remain successful in the long term, as a manager, I would implement strategic planning, which the book describes as, "the process of identifying a desired future state for an organization and a means to achieve it" (Buchbinder, et. al, 2019). This dynamic process puts emphasis on there being no distinct beginning and end. This focus on continuous learning is helpful for experimentation and reflection on past experiences to inform future decisions. In the healthcare planning process SWOT analysis is often used as it aims to identify internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Two important functionsof this analysis described in the textbook include, "to gather a snapshot of how the organization is currently interacting with the market in comparison to the internal capabilities and intended strategic direction of the organization, and to identify market opportunities and threats that the organization may want to address in future strategic efforts" (Buchbinder, et. al, 2019). The planning used in healthcare can differ from other organizations due to the unique complexities that are faced. Unlike many other occupations, healthcare operates within a highly regulated environment governed by laws, policies, and standards set by government agencies. This requires an approach that not only highlights compliance and standards, but a distinct patient-centric focus to improve high-quality care. This produces a strong linkage between strategic planning and quality of care because healthcare leaders are looking to improve specificareas of this quality such as reducing wait times or enhancing patient communication. By integrating quality of care initiatives into strategic planning, healthcare organizations ensure they are continually working towards providing safer, more effective, patient-centered care. This goal of keeping patients at the forefront of care is imperative to pursue God's purpose for us as Christians because the bible tells us in Philippians 2:4 "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others" (ESV). Working in healthcare requires a distinct interest in the wellbeing of others, especiallywhen we are called to serve others through the glory of Christ.
