Each student should select an annual report 1 for a company listed in the local (or international) financial/ securities market for the fiscal year ended 2019. Each student should carry out a detailed and critical evaluation of the following: Evaluate the Chairmans Report of your company by examining the following four fundamental and enhancing qualities: 1. Relevance: i. Predictive Value (hint: look for forward-looking information; e.g., sentences or paragraphs that include future verbs) ii. Confirmatory value (hint: look for the sentences that confirm your company has achieved what it planned last year(s). iii. Timelines: Record the dates of publishing the chairmans report and the auditors report. iv. Comparability: This will be your next assignment and more information will be provided in the next session. 2. Each student should write a short paragraph (50 words minimum) on each requirement of i, ii, and iii, explaining what was found in the report for the three qualities. Hint: you can, for example, divide the paragraphs that include future verbs by the total paragraphs of the chairmans report. This will give you the percentage of predictive value utilized in the report. You can follow the same approach for evaluating the confirmatory value. For timelines, the closer the dates of reports to 31/12/2019, the better for the users of annual reports.
