The key ideas must be from two different chapter readings, and in the weeks where readings from both textbooks are assigned, must represent each text. For each key idea, students will identify the key idea, explain why it is significant to public administration law or ethics, and apply the ideas practically through referencing content from the selected sources identified in the module. All posts must be substantive, and they must utilize and cite material from the unit's course information/readings and at least one of the selected resources listed below, including complete internal citations and a reference list.

THE READINGS:
In Week 5 of our course, we will continue our discussion of ethical behavior by more fully exploring professional codes of ethics and examining the real challenges public administrators encounter in applying their codes of ethics practically. Our readings in Ethics Primer include Chapters 5, 6, and 7. In Chapter 5, we will explore how the "duty" of public employees is codified by reviewing five different codes of ethics. Chapter 6 presents the real-world ethical challenges public administrators confront in their organizations. Finally, in Chapter 7 our author will present options for overcoming these challenges using an ethical problem-solving too.
From the Understanding Law for Public Administration text, the assigned reading in Chapter 12 reviews public ethics laws. In this chapter the legal and ethical restrictions for public administrators' behavior is presented. Restrictions vary from accepting gifts to requiring certain disclosures of financial and business interests. Even post-employment, public administrators are subject to ethical restrictions on their future employment.
