Eggshells contain calcium carbonate. The following procedure was used to determine the percentage, by mass, of calcium carbonate in 1.59 g of eggshell. Step 1 - The eggshell was crushed and added to 100.0 mL of 0.300 mol L' HCl solution. Excess HCl remained after the reaction was complete. CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) CaCl2(aq) + H20(1) + CO2(g) Step 2 - 20.0 mL samples of the excess HCl(aq) were titrated with 0.100 mol L-'Na2CO3 solution. The average titre volume of Na2CO3(aq) required to neutralise the HCl(aq) was 9.39 ml. Calculate the percentage mass of calcium carbonate in eggshell. MW of CaCo3 = 100.0869 g/mol
