Emergency Bag Some Floridians have experienced the inconvenience of having to leave their homes for a period of time due to hurricanes and other natural disasters (fires, wind damage, tornados or flooding). This project is not to be taken lightly as having experienced the discomfort of the aftermath of a hurricane; this project is to make you think of what is important to you and for short-term survival. This project is to encourage each of you to actually set up an emergency bag for your house. Currently, I have a Rubbermaid, split top 5- day (that is questionable) cooler that houses my emergency items. I review the box and it's contents every spring before hurricane season. It has wheels and I can lift it into my vehicle. So, if the police came and said that I had 20 minutes to evaluate my home, this is ready to go. Most of us do not have any plan for leaving our house. Katrina evacuees told news personnel that they planned to return within hours to their homes. Sadly, many did not a home to return to. With a hurricane, fire, flood or tornado in mind, the project is to make you set up a plan. For this class the plan is on paper and it will be up to each of you to make sure that the plan is completed at your own home. Here are the rules and how the grade will be determined: Here are the rules and how the grade will be determined: 1. You must think of all the items that you would want to take with you should you have to leave your home. 2. List the items that will remain permanently in the box (box should be described or a picture submitted with your paper). If this is not done, points will be removed. 3. List the items that will be gathered within the 20 minutes that you have available to pack. If this is not done, points will be removed. 4. Defend why these items will go with you. If this is not done, points will be removed. s. How will you transport the items? If this is not done, points will be removed
