Emily was in her final semester at her college. She received a letter from the registrar stating that she could not graduate because her cumulative grade point average was slightly below that required for graduation. She went to her advisor, and they discovered that Emily's transcript carried a grade of "F" in a course that Emily thought she had dropped during her junior year. Emily is sure her previous advisor had spoken with the professor, and the grade was in error. Emily was told to contact the registrar's office, but she received little help, only being told that she could not change the grade to "W" without a letter from the course professor. After some checking, they learned the professor had left the university and was teaching somewhere in Europe. She has been accepted to graduate school and will start in the fall of the year.
