Lisa was hired by QRS company on January 1, 2020 as a machine operator. Although she was experienced at her job, there were two machines that she had never worked on. Her manager George promised that Lisa would receive training "as soon as possible". On her third day on the job, Lisa was asked to use the machine that she never received training on. Lisa accidentally cut her hand, requiring four stiches. George apologized profusely and begged her not to mention this accident. QRS deposited an extra $500 on top of her pay, to compensate her for the injury. There was a lot of theft in the company's premises so QRS installed cameras. One camera was supposed to be installed in the opposite direction of the change room but it was installed incorrectly, and it was recording footage in the direction of the change room. As the doors opened the camera occasionally recorded glimpses of employees changing. George was informed by Lisa that the camera looked like it was set up wrong but George told her "not to worry, it's not recording anything." George knew that this was a lie. Rick's contract. It was also in the garbage bin. He does the same job as you and was hired the same day. Did you know that he is earning $65,000 while you are only earning $49,000?" Lisa was angry, to say the least! She decided to confront her manager. She arrived at George's office and told George that she wanted to talk to him. George let her into his office and closed the door. Before she could start speaking, George started rubbing her arms and neck. Lisa told him to stop. "Why Lisa, we are having fun." "I am not comfortable with this" she replied. "You're a flirt, Lisa" he retorted. From that moment on, George was very cold towards her. One month later, it was announced that Rick was promoted to lead hand on their shift. Lisa asked George if others were actively considered for the position. speaking she was ranked below average in most categories, including "safety procedures", "listening to instructions" and "team work". Lisa was very confused as there were no indications that her work was subpar. She reached out to HR and she had a meeting with Sandra, their HR Rep. Sandra informed her that it was unprecedented that an employee would get injured so soon after getting employed "You need to take better direction and to be more careful, Lisa" Lisa then advised Sandra that she felt that she was a victim of reprisal for not accepting George's sexual advances. "The oldest trick in the book, Iying about someone's character when you don't get your way" Sandra replied, Lisa was very upset and left work without telling anyone. The next day she reported for work and George informed her that she was being suspended without pay for three days. "Go home and think about your future, Lisa. You have been making too many mistakes": three days. "Go home and think about your future, Lisa. You have been making too many mistakes" "Suspended?" replied Lisa. "You can't do that! "Yes we can, it's in the Employee Handbook?" George said. "What handbook?" she asked. "You are expected to follow all procedures, in the employment contract and the handbook" George assured her.
