John Smith has been an outside salesperson for Grow-New a fertilizer company, i.e. lawn and garden fertilizers, kitty litter, ice melt spread since Dec. 1/00. The company is located in Paris, ON. They are covered by provincial legislation. His job description is attached as a separate document.

His compensation includes a performance bonus of up to 20% which is paid on an annual basis on first pay in December. He also usually receives a performance merit increase of 3% as he has been a stellar performer. He is also part of a fairly rich benefit plan with an annual cap of $3,000 per employee (if everything is claimed). John is 62 years old, has a high school education and the plant is located in Paris, Ontario. His current salary is $85,000 per annum.

What you are required to do:

a) On July 29, 2020, your company receives a reference request for John from another employer. Outline what (and why) you will include in your reference for John and who will provide it.

b) Although I am not asking you to write an actual termination letter, I want you to identify and explain 5 mitigating variables that you would have to consider when writing your letter. Your letter must also identify and explain 5 important clauses/statements. I am not asking you to write an in-depth letter with appendices, I am only looking for your understanding of what is important to include and the appropriate calculations
