"Encounters" Assignment for Cognitive Psychology (PSY/CGS 3361_001) When you start learning about certain topics in this course (e.g., perception, attention, memory, etc.), you'll notice new things in your environment. To complete this assignment, each student is required to submit 1 "encounter"-something that has happened in your day-to-day life that applies to a specific topic or term from the lectures. Due Date: Students will be assigned to a particular due date, based on the first letter of their last name. (Last Names A-K, due Mon., Feb. 26; Last Names L-Z, due Mon., April 8) Required format: You should submit your assignment on eLearning as a MS Word doc. or PDF. (see "Encounters Assignment" folder on eLearning) Length: 250 words (1 page). A few lines over 1 page is ok; 1.5 pages is too long! Double spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins; name and date at top of page. This assignment has 3 parts: Grading: 1. Begin by clearly defining/describing the term or topic that applies to your encounter. Take a few sentences here to make sure you description is complete. 2. Describe your "encounter." This may be a personal experience, a conversation with a family member or friend, maybe something you read in the news, a scene from a movie, etc. Whatever you choose, be specific. 3. Describe the connection between this event and the term or topic from #1 (essential to receiving credit). In other words, in your answer, you must describe specifically how this 'encounter' relates to one of the topics we've discussed during class. This assignment is worth 25 points, and will be graded as either, "Credit" or "No Credit." . 0 CREDIT (25 POINTS): The student has completed the assignment using the required format and has sufficiently addressed the 3 parts of the assignment. NO CREDIT (0 POINTS): The student's submission does not sufficiently address the 3 parts of the assignment, and/or has not adhered to the required format. Especially with short written assignments like this one, students will need leave time to revise their work so that their descriptions are clear and their writing is precise. Do not submit work that includes typos, misspellings, OR descriptions copy/pasted from the textbook or the Internet.
