The world is currently facing a shortage of nonrenewable sources of energy, and it is vital to understand the difference between the two types of resources. Nonrenewable sources of energy are those that are finite and will eventually run out. They are created by natural processes and may take millions of years to develop. Renewable sources, on the other hand, are abundant in nature and will never run dry.

One of the most common nonrenewable sources of energy is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, natural gas, and oil. These resources are formed from the remains of dead plants and animals that have been covered with sediment and pressure that has formed the fossil fuels over millions of years. However, these sources of energy have a high carbon footprint and contribute to climate change. In a bid to address climate change caused by nonrenewable sources of energy, three renewable energy sources that could replace them are wind power, solar power and geothermal energy. According to an article in Scientific American, "wealthy countries have blown through their carbon budgets." This sobering realization highlights the urgent need to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. While developing countries often receive criticism for their contributions to global emissions, it is high time for developed nations to take responsibility for the long-term effects of their own carbon footprints. As the article emphasizes, "unless we take drastic and immediate action, we risk pushing our planet and societies to the brink of disaster." Nonrenewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels and nuclear energy are depleting and contribute significantly to climate change, making renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power and geothermal energy the future. The transition from nonrenewable to renewable sources of energy is more important in today's world, and it is essential to pursue sustainable and clean energy to secure the future of our planet.

The wind energy is harnessed by the blades to generate torque or rotational force. It harnesses energy through the use of wind turbines to generate electricity. The optimal pitch of wind turbines is adjusted automatically with wind speed and direction, the angle of the wind turbine determines the amount of wind energy the windmill will generate. Wind turbines can be designed in both the vertical and horizontal axis. Vertical blades can pick up wind from any direction, but it's not as efficient as a horizontal axis wind turbine. Horizontal axis wind turbines. allow blades to capture the winds full force by tracking the wind's direction. The blades of a wind turbine need to be shaped in such a way that it will maximize efficiently curved like airplane blades.

Similarly, solar power is a renewable energy source that has low emissions and a minimal carbon footprint. It harnesses energy from sunlight to generate electricity or heat. Light from the sun stimulates electrons on a solar panel to create direct current electricity. Most solar thermal energy systems are low maintenance because they have no moving parts. The amount of electricity generated depends on the intensity of the sun, but even on cloudy days solar panels will still absorb sunlight. Once the energy is transferred from the sun, it flows from solar panels to an inverter that converts the energy to usable electricity. The solar panel utility grid stores the extra energy that is not being used to generate electricity during the day. That energy is being used in the night time when there is no solar energy available.
