Environmental Crime Definition Guide: prompts and guidelines.

Taking into consideration all that we have learned so far, including the materials for Modules 01; 02; 03 and 04, build a brief "Environmental Crime Definition Guide". The guide should be a simple document, easily readable by anyone who does not know anything about environmental crime, to help such persons better understand what environmental crime is, and what environmental crime is not.

Below, the two (02) prompts. After them, twelve (12) guidelines. Use a checklist to be sure you covered them all.

Prompts:

1) Under a Title "An Environmental Crime Is:" provide 5 to 8 bullet points that briefly explain (less than 50 words per point) things that define what an environmental crime is.

2) Under a Title "An Environmental Crime Is Not:" provide 3 to 6 bullet points that briefly explain (less than 50 words per point) things that define what an environmental crime is clearly not.

Guidelines to properly do the Environmental Crime Definition Guide:

Format:

  • Cover page. I welcome you want to add one (with course name, your name, my name, assignment name), but it is not necessary.
  • Both titles have to be present and easily identifiable.
  • Contents have to be clearly:1) affiliated with one (01) of the titles; and2) separated one from the other. Use a table, two (02) separate sheets, whichever technique you prefer.
  • Citation rules. Do not cite in the text. Build a separate sheet at the end, listing (APA style) all of the materials you actually used to build the guide.

Contents:

  • You are defining. This is different from "exemplifying" and from simply providing information about a topic. Being precise, accurate and clear are "a must". Being creative and innovative are "a plus": try these only if you are sure that the first ones are covered. Language has to be formal and scientifically sound, yet as simple as possible.
  • Cover all intro modules (01 to 04 included). You do not have to use each of the material pieces necessarily, but it has to be evident that all introductory modules are somehow present in your work. Module 01 should be present "in a less obvious way", for clear reasons.

Process:

  • Devote appropriate time. You have to go through roughly 04 modules that cover many topics, with readings and videos. Do not wait until last minute to do this.
  • Do not overcomplicate yourselves. This is a simple assignment, and keeping it simple is the most likely way to succeed at it. While the process may imply some efforts, always remember that your final product should be a short and simple document.
  • Remember CUNY's policies on academic integrity! This is an individual assignment. You know very well by now what you can and cannot do. I hope that I do not have to make any harsh decisions in this sense.
  • If you have doubts, you can email me timely. Emails received before 3:00 PM ET of Wednesday 09/14 are very likely to be answered timely; emails received past that time may or may not be responded before the deadline.

Submission:

  • Submit below a clean and open text or a .pdf file. 1)Submit the work below. I do not accept email submissions.2)Choose your format. Text documents are simpler to correct by me, but a .pdf may look better. So long as I can open the file and it is not corrupted, you are free to choose at will.
  • Submit your work timely.1) Assignment is due at 11:59 PM ET of Friday 09/16.2)You can also submit it during Saturday 09/17, with the usual lateness penalization (10% automatic discount).3)You cannot submit it after 09/17, and in such case you get 0 points for it.
