. Environmental Impact Assessment Thanks to being an engaged and active member of the Dalhousie student community, you've been asked by the province of Nova Scotia to provide consulting advice on an upcoming Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). To address the lack of housing in the Halifax Regional Municipality, the City of Halifax is proposing to build 20 luxury condominium buildings in Point Pleasant Park. To get the most revenue, these condos would be built directly on the coastline to get that "billion- dollar view". In addition to the condos, parking structures to accompany them would also be built, and paved roads would be constructed to provide access to the new community. Critics have vocally objected, pointing to the ecological importance of Point Pleasant Park (as the last and only wetland area in the city, a resting place for hurricane-thrown birds, wildlife habitat, storm surge protection, etc.) and the substantial impacts of building directly on the coastline. There has also been discussion of other underdeveloped areas in the city where this could be a better fit with far fewer environmental impacts. The EIA is currently in the "Assessment of Environmental Risk" stage where decisions about what data should be collected and how the ultimate decision should be made (decision criteria) are being established. As a young university person living in the city, you've been asked specifically to provide input. What criteria would you establish for making this decision? Why would you use these criteria? What data might you collect and analyze to inform this decision? Why this data? We expect good answers to be 250-500 words count.
