Equity Theory To understand the meaning of what motivation means within the workplace for individuals is to understand that motives that are met for people can motivate them to continue the desired behavior. I found this interesting that the Business Administration course was drawing on Psychological theories in the dimensions of what characteristics are for motivation, such as fear, pain, growth, and pleasure. Categorizing these characteristics as either intrinsic factors or extrinsic outside factors as referenced from Exhibit 7.2, "Four categories of Motives Managers Can Use" (Daft, R. L., Marcic, D. 2014). These categories or "quadrants" are based on human needs that are affected by rewards, depending on whether or not employees meet the manager's desired behavior and ethics. Learning that employees desire more than a few motivations within a job or management positively affects them to be satisfied with their job. Relating to Maslow's theory of Hierarchy of needs"(Daft, R. L., Marcic, D. 2014), have used this method many times in managing corporations and businesses when overseeing, managing, or hiring individuals. In learning what they need to be successful with the job given, and stay on the company long term if their skills and personality align with the company. Building off this, I would have liked to have seen within readings and the text for this course more up-to-date articles and research from academic peers.
