Ergo (Pty) Ltd, (henceforth "Ergo") is a manufacturer and bulk seller of ergonomic furniture (chairs and desks) to institutions of higher learning. The company has a 31 December financial year-end. Vehicles One of the vehicles which is owned by Ergo is a Scania truck. The company uses the truck to transport furniture to its customers. Ergo purchased the truck on 1 January 2020 at a cost of R750,000. It estimated the truck to have a useful life of 7 years and residual value of R50,000. Ergo experienced a problem with the truck in 2021 which resulted in it using excessive amounts of fuel and requiring unexpected additional maintenance. The manufacturer (Scania) was unable to rectify the problem. Ergo tested the vehicle for impairment as of 31 December 2021. It found that the truck had a recoverable amount of R290,000 and that none of its other estimates had changed. Ergo continued to use the truck in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, Scania made a breakthrough and repaired the truck for free on 31 December 2023. The company determined the recoverable amount of truck again as of 31 December 2023. According to its valuation, the truck now had a value in use
