Erie decided to establish her own hair salon and entered a contract with Chy in 2019. Their agreement stipulated that Erie would lease Chy's property as her business premises from 1 May 2019 to 30 April 2022 with a monthly rent of 2,000. However, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Erie's hair salon faced financial challenges. The UK government declared a national lockdown on 23 March 2020. In response to Erie's financial struggles, Chy encouraged her to persevere, expressing optimism about the business's profitability post-pandemic. To further support Erie, Chy assured her that the rent would be reduced to 1,000 per month from 1 April 2020 to 30 March 2021. Motivated by Chy's support, Erie decided to continue operating her hair salon, hoping for an improvement in the situation. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, her business was not improved. In addition, Erie did not make any rent payments to Chy from 1 April 2020. On 1 May 2022, Erie received a letter from Chy's solicitor demanding payment of the outstanding rent at the original rate of 2,000 per month for the period from 1 April 2020 to 30 April 2022. Advise Erie on her legal position according to contract law. Use IRAC to answer the question.
