Erik Erickson's Psychosocial Stages of Development is a good theory to consider when we discuss the impact of childhood trauma. Trauma can lead to mental health issues and if these go unaddressed they can have severe impact on learning, brain and social/emotional development. For example, a child whose parents divorce when they are a toddler and then they experience financial hardship or neglect can cause the child to lack trust in adults when they begin school in Pre-K or Kindergarten.
