Ethics in Criminal Justice II- Module 11 Discussion-

Police Ethics Today- we explored the world of Ethics and the Police. In today's world this has been a very hot topic and as we go through the assignments you will not only develop your opinions further as to ethics in the police arena but what can be done to make things better. In this chapter we learned the problematic nature of policing, the peculiar environment of the police, the ethics of democracy and the ethics of shunning corruption. Also included in the assignments will be further examination of police power and its exercise, and the issues dealing with police corruption and the difficulties in addressing the topic.

Question: 1- In today's world, law enforcement is faced with many challenges and alleged problems. Discuss what you see as the problem(s) and how those should be addressed, or have many of the problems, in your opinion, been blown out of proportion?

Victims and Victimology- Module 11 Discussion-

We examined the Victim Impact Statements, a critical part of victim rights. Victim impact statements are now accepted as a constitutionally firm mechanism that may be used in all types of criminal cases, from simple assault to murder. To be effective the victim impact statement must be accepted by all parties in the CJS, from law enforcement to prosecutors, the courts, and corrections. Whether the impact statements are effective is still argued. The effect they have on sentencing and victim satisfaction is debated but they should be used as the debate continues. From experience, they are important.

Question: 1- Judy, who works at a local dinner and is a high school dropout, requests that you assist her in preparing a Victim Impact Statement (VIS). She has been raped and the offender's trial is next week. How much or what part of the VIS may you prepare for her? What should you advise Judy before you prepare the VIS discussed in the preceding question?
