Ethics in the professional world is a vast and constantly-evolving topic. Our textbook provides information on various professional ethics-related issues. Though navigating professional ethics may feel maze-like at times, we should all at least familiarize ourselves with the ethical concerns that affect our fields and our colleagues so we can more easily manage and minimize their impact.
For this Discussion, we are going to look at a few scenarios, some adapted from Chapter 4Links to an external site. of our textbook and some from Introduction to EthicsLinks to an external site..
Scenario 1
"Your small company continues to have problems with employee morale." Your boss asks you to research solutions for this problem. You like working at this company, you want the company to succeed, and you feel that performing well on this project could be a key step in getting attention and advancing in your position. "Research shows bringing in an outside expert, someone who is unfamiliar with the company and the stakeholders, has the potential to impact the greatest change. You discover, however, that to bring in such an expert is cost prohibitive." You know your boss and the culture of the company well enough to assume he would never approve of the expense. In this situation, what would you do, and why? (Beilfuss C 4.5)
