He is seeking professional help because he is uncertain about his future and is feeling anxious and depressed. He had originally planned to return home after he graduated, and each time he thinks about his future and being near his family, he becomes more anxious. The counselor asks Etian if he could share more about his concerns, and Etian responds with, "I am Jewish, we do not talk about family to strangers." The counselor shared that he is not Jewish, and would like to know more about Etian's faith, expressing that he respected Etian and his family. Etian shared that his beliefs are more liberal, he is concerned that he will not fit in with other Jewish Americans and is quite concerned that his parents will not accept him if they knew.
