1. Evaluate an ethical or unethical situation involving a business leader in the past few years.Explain what made this situation either ethical or unethical. Relate if you would havemoved in a different direction.
About six months my team inherited a new project as a result of thirteen employees beingdisciplined. Of the thirteen, eight were experienced leaders that had been with the companyfor five to fifteen years and were terminated. Typically our human resources and ethicsdepartment do not share details regarding investigations or the outcomes except with senior andexecutive leaders, but in this case, they brought my entire team to discuss the details of thisproject so everyone understood what they were inheriting. The eight individuals that wereterminated ranged from lower-level leaders to mid-level leaders within our organization. Theywere terminated for fraud and ethical violations as a result of filing fraudulent expense reports.This team was claiming unauthorized per-diem for over two years for certain employees, thethirteen who were disciplined including the eight leaders, in the amount of over $250K. Theywere authorizing extra per-diem as kudos and thank you for whatever they felt met theirpersonal criteria or in general, just for the heck of it. The details of the investigation and whatwas discovered were the grossest ethical violation I have experienced after thirty years ofexperience in the military and private sector. The senior leader involved was allowing this tohappen, as he was benefiting from it as well, and also was in partnership with the customercontracting officer who was also involved. This was not just a single person committing anethical violation, but instead an entire group of employees. Ultimately the senior leader was held accountable for it because they allowed it to take place and approved the expense reports andmost times, directed the additional per-diem be entered on the expense reports. The lower-levelemployees were just recipients of the bad behavior but ultimately were held accountable for notreporting it, and everyone involved was required to pay all the money back.
Needless to say, my organization inherited this task order because we are known to always beethical, and do what's right. The company has enough trust in my organization to knowsomething like this would never happen due to the checks and balances we have in place to detect this level of fraud, but also the members of my organization have enough integrity and ethical values to never allow it in the first place.

An effective team is one that utilizes the theories of leadership to create a cohesive team environment. This team has a leader that focuses on communication, collaboration, and collective decision making. The leader will ensure that each team member is able to contribute their ideas, opinions, and skills to the team. They also ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently, and that the team works as a unit to reach their collective goals. In contrast, an ineffective team will lack leadership and focus more on individual tasks. The team members may not communicate well, resulting in unclear goals and objectives. The team may struggle to reach consensus, leading to suboptimal results. Ineffective teams often lack direction and do not have a clear vision for the future (Eventus, 2023).
I have been part of a few teams recently, one for work and one being apart of sports. Both have been pretty effective but have had to make improvements over time. First off, at work I would define the partnership as more of a group then a team. There are major differences between a team and a group. A group is a collection of individuals who interact primarily to share information and to make decisions that enable each member to perform within his or her area of responsibility. A team as a unit of interdependent individuals with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose (Lussier & Achua, 2015). Essentially, a group is different people sharing info for certain roles and responsibilities, but a team has a common goal with tactics to achieve that goal. Use of communication is probably the most important idea for an effective team. In terms of communication, Feedback is very effective for a team to improve. Feedback is something akin to criticism or attack. Perhaps this is why it is seldom practised with any enthusiasm, and certainly anticipated with less. Yet feedback is not criticism, it is a supportive act intended to deal with under-performance in a constructive way and to develop performance to a higher level (Dignen, 2022). This feedback has allowed my team to constantly improve which leads to more probability of success.
