Evaluation researchis conducted to measure the effectiveness of social interventions. This area of specialty has become increasingly popular in recent years.

The significant growth in this area of research is partly due to federal stipulations that require grant recipients to conduct this type of (basic / applied) research to continue to receive funding.

In practice, the questions appropriate for evaluation research can take many forms. One type, a needs assessmentstudy, involves analyzing (a consistent flow of information about a program / the balance between the investment and outcomes of a program / the breadth and depth of a problem in a population).
