Exoskeletons are wearable technologies that can support and enhance human movement. Powered exoskeletons have actuators that can move the underlying body segments. For rehabilitative exoskeletons, a goal is to support gaining motor function. A researcher wanted to examine if using a lower body exoskeleton would support walking patterns for patients recovering from a knee surgery. The researcher evaluated the cases when the exoskeleton was worn and not worn. The researcher was also interested in how the exoskeleton would support gait for patients of different ages and recruited patients that were young adults and older adults.
