expand The first step I would take in improving staff communication is getting staff on board and involved with the plan. This would include engaging leaders on the unit, such as unit council and charge nurses to help carry out these actions. The next step would be using the walk-around method. This simply means showing your face and engaging staff in conversation around the unit. This means coming in early at times and staying late. This allows night shift to feel heard and seen. Along with the walk-around technique, I would implement an open-door policy. These two techniques will engage a majority of staff, but likely not everyone (Finkelman, 2019). There will be those who perhaps are intimidating or do not feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions directly with leadership. I would create a suggestion box as well as collect information through various surveys. This gives those who may not have the ability to provide in-person feedback, the opportunity to still be heard (Finkelman, 2019)
