A time when I had an experience working in an organization with both in-groups and out-groups, where the leader's behavior and actions toward the in-group and out-group members differed was members of the in-group where often given more opportunities for professional development and received higher raises. The Director's behavior towards this group was more supportive and interactive. The in-group members where often involved in decision-making processes and where given more autonomy in their tasks. Where I noticed the out-group members who where less engaged with the Director and they were given fewer responsibilities. They receive less attention from our Director and where often given less challenging tasks. Our Director's behavior towards this group was more formal and transactional.
