Explain why protecting their intellectual property is important to the company. I need to respond to my classmates post below and need some examples of why their intellectual property is important to the company. Thank you!

Post from classmate:

Apple Inc. is a major company that has many aspects to it including cellphones, computers, tablets, operating systems, and streaming services, just to name a few. Because of all this, Apple has intellectual properties that include patents, copyrights, and trademarks. They are also a world-wide company that is easily recognized by its simple logo.

Apple is constantly creating new technology for use in its devices. While people are familiar with the iPhone, iPad, Mac and other devices, most of Apple's patents cover the technologies that make these items work. For instance, a few patents that Apple has been awarded on November 10, 2020 includes user interface cooling audio component, scene camera retargeting, light emitting structure, and downlink receiver channel isolation (Apple Patents Granted, 2020).

Apple has guidelines for using their copyrights and trademarks. Apple views its trademarks, tradenames, trade dress, and service marks to be of value to the company. Apple states that using their trademarks with their permission that the company is the owner of the trademark. Agreement to use the trademark stipulates that you will not do anything to harm the Apple trademark. There is a list of authorized use of Apple's trademarks and the Mac's trademark. These include advertising, compatibility, publications, and websites (Guidelines for Using Apple Trademarks and Copyrights, 2020).

Apple protects its intellectual properties because they are one of the major companies in the technology industry. Because Apple is a leader in the tech industry, they have to ensure that technology that they develop is retained by them legally. This protects the work that the company has done and keeps competitors from stealing their technology. This technology is worth billions of dollars that Apple's investors and inventors have put time and money in. Apple also protects its trademark because it is so well known. Apple's trademark is a promotion within itself and therefore is highly valuable to the company and it will do what it can to preserve its reputation.
