Exploratory: Probe facts and basic knowledge

Employees and former employees of IHG would hold the answers to my research question. IHG competitors would be another group that could be quite helpful. The HR department should be able to let me know what the hiring process is and how they effectively recruit talented employees for their organization. Working with those that are in the know would be best because that will open up an opportunity to gather information from key individuals. The population I have in mind is current and past employees of IHG. I would also like to find out critical information from managers that may have conducted exit interviews or evaluations with current and past employees. My main approach will be to work with qualitive data to understand the population that chose to work with IHG based on the brand and its reputation. OLeary & Hunt states, Key informants can be instrumental to the preliminary phases of an investigation and be used to generate primary data.

Understanding and managing my workload will be a challenge because data collection can take up a lot of time and effort. There will also be an opportunity for me to gain insight and knowledge of conducting research down the line. Karson & Goodwin states that, It is the hallmark and cornerstone of science because science is a community that aims to generate true statements about reality. Conducting a focus group could be problematic because some people may need feel free to open up in front of other people. I would like to use focus groups to provide employee feedback, but I know it would be better to use more than one method to gather information. Talking to former employees present the challenge of talking with someone that maybe disgruntle but you can find out some truth in their observations and experiences.
