Ezra is a Businessman who lives with his wife, Clarice and his two children in Kingston. He is in the process of relocating his offices to St Ann as he believes he can make more profit there. His family will also move with him and will now live in St Ann. Having realized that his St Ann office would not accommodate all his office furniture he decided to sell a few pieces. On October 1, Ezra sent a letter to Maxine offering to sell her his office desk and chair for $90,000. He asked Maxine to let him know by "notice in writing" by October 15. On receiving the letter, Maxine sent her acceptance, using the post. She dropped the mail in the post on October 10. Maxine also sent an acceptance letter with her brother to Ezra's office - this letter got to Ezra's office on October 17. Ezra read the letter and placed it on his desk. Maxine's letter which was sent by post got to Ezra on October 20. On October 18, Ezra sold his office desk and chair to Hank for $90,000. Since Hank was short cash, Ezra agreed to accept $40,000 worth of cocaine as part of the payment, in the form of pills. He collected $50,000 cash and the pills from Hank. The pills turned out to be made out of powdered sugar instead of cocaine. Ezra was upset, and went to Hank for his cocaine. Even though the family was moving to St Ann, Clarice, Ezra's wife, would still work in Kingston and so would have to travel every day to and from work. As part of their arrangement, Ezra agreed to give Clarice $20,000 every week to take care of gas for the car. Some months ago, Ezra and Clarice had a disagreement and now Ezra has stopped giving her the money for the gas. Clarice is upset and has decided to sue Ezra for the money for the gas. Maxine appeared at Ezra's office demanding the desk and chair, claiming that she had a contract with him. Ezra wants to recover the cocaine from Hank, as he said they had a contract for the payment. Clarice is suing Ezra as she wants the money owed and for Ezra to continue paying her.
