Course Description This course is designed as a comprehensive overview of investment theory and practice, including the concepts that are most relevant to the Personal Financial Planning profession. In addition to covering an overview of investment theory and practice, the course will focus on using tools such as the financial calculator and Excel in the study of investment fundamentals, investment risk, basics of debt instruments, mutual funds, ETFs, fiscal and monetary policy, and options and futures. An overview of the other areas of investment theory and practice will be provided to relay basic terminology for your future in the program. The course will provide learning activities that will facilitate student growth and development in higher-level thinking (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation), written and oral communication skills, and networking. Since a Certificate In Family Financial Planning at North Carolina A & T State University sity qualifies you to take the CFP Certification Exam, this course covers material that will be tested on that exam plus other materials that are necessary to becoming a competent and ethical financial advisor. Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes Demonstrate a basic understanding of investment concepts. Demonstrate knowledge of the investment instruments available to a financial planner. Integrate the financial planning process and CFP Board's Practice Standards in developing and communicating types and sources of investments and investment risk. Analyze and evaluate measures of investment risk and return. Identify opportunities and challenges related to a client's investments and a client's goals. Analyze the various tax treatments of investment classes. Analyze and explain various investment strategies. Purpose appropriate investment recommendations that meet specific needs. . . .
