Fact Pattern:
Peter Protester is livid about the state of policing in this United States. He and a group of protesters decide to head to downtown Phoenix to let everyone know how they feel. They gather on the public sidewalk in front of the Phoenix Police Department Headquarters and begin to express themselves.
They chant, "End Police Violence! Hand up, guns down!"
A third grade class happens to be visiting the children's museum, located next door to the police station. Little Sally Schoolgirl is walking by Peter, when he turns to her and yells, "Hey little girl! What would you do if your daddy got shot and killed by police? It could happen!"
Little Sally starts to cry. She later wets the bed and has nightmares. Her parents take her to a counselor, who suggests she begin regular counseling sessions to overcome her new fear of crowds.
A police officer tells Peter, "Hey! There's no need for that!"
Peter responds, "Fuck you! You dirty copper!"
The officer arrests Peter for disorderly conduct, based on his cursing.
After that, Peter becomes a sort of polarizing local celebrity. Some love him and others hate him.
Tina T-Shirter decides that she might be able to make a buck. She designs a T-shit with Peter's image, with rifle scope crosshairs over him. Above the image, it reads, "Copper Crosshairs." She sells the T-shirts on the sidewalk.
Richie Reporter, fresh of his victory over allegations of libel last week, decides he wants to jump into this story. He does some research to try to find out why Peter would lash out at Sally Schoolgirl. He finds a divorce record on file at the local courthouse, which shows that Peter and his wife had separated and that she had custody of their daughter. The record states that Peter's wife had cheated on him and contracted an STD, but that the court awarded her custody anyway.
Richie writes and publishes a story based on those facts.
