\fDATA DAY 3 RULES: All work is to be done on your own in class. You may discuss this with others but you are not allowed to copy someone else's work. Do not show your work to others; do not ask to see someone else's work. You may not use a tutor to work on this. BEFORE the third DATADAY, either through a short video or in a previous class, your instructor will model the following for you: 1. how to put a picture into your document 2. how to construct a contingency table using data In your third Data Day assignment, you will create a Contingency table and answer questions about the data in it. This work is to be done by hand. A. Are birth order and number of piercings related? Make a contingency table (Table 1) using ALL the data given comparing the number of piercings(0 -10) and the birth order(1-8). Show Table 1 and use this data to answer questions 1 - 3 If you picked someone at random, what is the probability that the person: 1. has the same number of piercings as his/her birth order? 2. has no more piercings than his/her birth order number? 3. has 3 or more piercings if his/her birth order is more than 2? B. Make a second contingency table (Table 2) condensing contingency Table 1--using four Birth Order number categories; 1 or 2; 3 or 4; 5 or 6; 7 or 8 and five Piercings categories: 0; 1-2; 3-4; 5-6; 7 and above--this can be done without going back and totally recounting. If you can't figure that out, redo the table using the new categories. Show Table 2 and answer questions 4-5: 4. Given that a person was either the first or second born in his/her family, what is the probability that (s)he has no piercings? 5. Given that a person was the third or fourth person born in his/her family, what is the probability that (s)he has 3 or more piercings? Now, go back and, in a short paragraph (4 or 5 sentences at the most), critique the choices of categories and the resulting displays. If you think the choices for display were good, say that and say why. If you do not agree that the choices were good, say why and suggest and show a better choice. Put your name, section, and instructor name in the Header. Save your MSWord document in the following manner: your last name, your first initial, your student ID number, DD3. So, if I am Sue Jones ID 99999999, my document would be saved as joness99999999DD3 Submit this through BB within 10 minutes of the completion of your class on Data Day3. If your assignment is not submitted on time, one point will be taken off for each minute late. The lowest possible grade will be zero(0)
