Kings began the medieval era as figures who held legal privileges but were not much stronger than local lords or barons across the country.Slowly kings were able to exert more power over lords and barons until power centralized into the king as a modern state (or nation).This was because wealth grew from the slow return of internal market expansions.This favored smaller countries such as Holland and England over France and Spain with much larger populations and more trade potential.

I am using Douglass C. North as reference for this topic. Looking for examples of how English kings differed from French and Spanish kings in how they managed local markets and collected taxes for wars. with emphasis on natural resources and economics
